Echoes Of Heaven Will Battle Barrier Draw In 2011 Grand Prix Stakes

May 26th, 2011

Echoes Of Heaven will have to battle a wide barrier draw when he takes to the track for the 2011 Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday May 28, 2011.

The three-year-old colt has drawn gate 20 for the race, which combined with Doomben’s tight track spells major problems for his winning chances.

Trainer Mick Price is turning to a gear change in the hope of making the winning difference.

“I’m putting blinkers on him and hopefully they’ll work,” Price said.

“I just think he’s been stargazing a bit lately and they’ll help him concentrate more.”

While he realises it will be hard, Price feels that Echoes Of Heaven’s talent gives him a chance of posting a win, despite the wide draw.

“Doomben is not his type of track and the alley will mean he’ll have to drop out which will make it very difficult for him,” Price said.

“But if there’s good speed on and everything went his way he can still win.

“There’s normally a bit of a push to the first corner so hopefully he’ll be able to get across into a handy spot.”

Echoes Of Heaven has raced wide and won before in some of the best races on the horse racing calendar, and Price sees no reason why it won’t happen again in the 2011 Grand Prix Stakes.

“He raced wide in the Port Adelaide Guineas which probably suited him and won well,” Price said.

“In the Chairman’s he was held up and had to go around them when he made his run.”

Echoes Of Heaven will be hoping for a good run ahead of his main target, the Group 1 Queensland Derby, on June 11.
