Doomben Cup Tips 2011

May 20th, 2011

Just nine horses remain in the 2011 Doomben Cup field but that hasn’t made it any easier to try and find a winner with plenty of good chances throughout.

My Kingdom Of Fife is the obvious pick but you have to ask the question, how long can he keep this good run going?

Last start in the Hollindale Stakes he accounted for most of these runners but it’s a different track, a different surface and a different distance as well.

Second in the race was Glass Harmonium and with a surprising first up run in Australia he’s flown well and truly into contention.

Even then though he’s far from a certain bet with many experts tipping him to improve plenty form the start and others tipping he’ll drop off and not be as explosive.

Throw into the mix the third place runner Scenic Shot who is always so consistent when getting to Brisbane even though he’s now nine-year-old.

Shane Scriven is in no doubt that this horse can win the race but how much of that is true and how much of that is jockey optimism?

That isn’t even including the New Zealand horse which is coming off steady results at home and has been aimed squarely at the Brisbane Carnival.

The Hombre will be peaking right now and the understated confidence of his trainer John Bary gives every indication an upset could be on the cards.

Shoot Out is another which has had huge support from punters but that’s been the case all year, he hasn’t delivered yet and the jury is out on if he can put it together tomorrow afternoon.

We’ve scoured the form and our 2011 Doomben Cup Tips represent the best chances and the best hope you have of backing a winner in the race.

2011 Doomben Cup Tips

1st – My Kingdom Of Fife

He’s been written off in every race he’s run so far but the fact is the horse keeps winning. We’ll fall on our sword eventually but until then MY Kingdom Of Fife will be well and truly at the top of our list. He proved he could beat this field last start and he’s proved he can run the 2000m at Group 1 level. If there’s a query it’s the good track, he’ll run it fine but there’s a chance others will run it better. Still, he’s beat this field, he’s won over this distance and he’s unbeaten in Australia, he’s the top pick here. This is one you definitely need to have a look at on Luxbet, ridiculously good odds and probably the bet of the day.

2nd – Glass Harmonium

Have a look at his stats, this horse is a better horse second up than he is first up so we expect him to improve plenty form the Hollindale. That was his first run on a slow track, 11 of 13 starts have come on good so that’ll be in his favour as well.  He’s drawn gate four next to the favourite so these two will be side by side for a run in the straight. He’s won twice over this distance so he’ll run it for sure, it’s going to be tight, maybe the race of the carnival.

3rd – Scenic Shot

Completing the same trifecta that ran in the Hollindale Stakes will be Scenic Shot. He starts from barrier two and needs to be careful he doesn’t get trapped deep even though it’s only a small field. He was hampered for a run last start and he’s a real contender if he can get himself clear. He usually runs better after a couple of runs so don’t doubt his fitness, it’s just a matter of if his turn of foot can match it with the big guns. He’s at great odds though and he’s won over 2400m so he’ll hit the line no problems.
