Gerald Ryan will attempt to stop Darley from winning another Group 1 two-year-old race when he lines Hot Snitzel up in the Group 1 T.J. Smith on June 11.
Darley has managed to win all of the previous Group 1 juvenile races this season, however, Ryan is hoping he can put a stop to that.
Hot Snitzel will take on the early favourite, Darley-owned Benifica, in the race.
“I’m not afraid of Benfica,” Ryan said.
Ryan will first run Hot Snitzel in this Saturday’s Group 2 Champagne Classic at Doomben.
“Hot Snitzel will run in the Champagne Stakes on Saturday and Corey Brown was booked last week as soon as I heard Nash (Rawiller) wouldn’t be appealing his careless riding suspension,” Ryan said.
“I’ve got a good form line on Benfica with Schiffer who beat him at Randwick on Boxing Day.
“I’m not saying Hot Snitzel is better than Schiffer but he’s improved a lot and he was always going to improve after finishing third in the Kindergarten Stakes before he came here.”
Ryan does not believe Hot Snitzel’s 12th place finish in the Golden Slipper was a true display of his ability.
“He had a rushed campaign for the Golden Slipper and then backed up the next week to run third in the Kindergarten,” he said.
While the champagne Classic is a 1,200 metre race, Ryan feels that Hot Snitzel will be perfectly suited to next month’s T.J. Smith’s mile long run.
“I’ve always said he’ll be better once he gets out to 1400 and 1600 metres,” Ryan said.
“He’s got a staying pedigree.”
