Trainer Tony Gollan will try his luck in the $125,000 BRC Sprint this Saturday with four-year-old gelding Listen Son.

Listen Son will be out to win his first Group race when he takes to Doomben Racecourse this weekend.

The Big Jesse gelding finished eighth in his last start in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast, after being caught wide for the majority of the race.

His trainer admits that is was hard to watch the run, knowing that his horse had been caught wide after jumping from barrier 15.

“Obviously it was pretty tough to watch,” Gollan said.

“He drew a bad alley and he got caught deep.”

Despite the disappointing finish, Listen Son recovered well from the race.

“He showed no sign of a hard run,” Gollan said.

Listen Son’s luck may have turned around, however, with the horse being allocated barrier four for Saturday’s BRC Sprint.

Gollan was pleased that Listen Son was finally able to draw closer to the inside.

“Making the field and drawing a good alley were the two things we wanted,” he said.

The trainer is confident that Listen Son will perform well in the Sprint.

“He holds up well through preparation this horse,” Gollan said.

“I’ve got no problems with him.

“He certainly gives you 100% every time you go round.

“He’s a pleasure to train in that regard.”

Gollan is hoping that jockey Larry Cassidy will be the one who can make all the difference when race day comes around.

“Larry has had a lot of luck on this horse and has rode him well,” he said.

Winning the BRC Sprint would be something Gollan would not be taking for granted.

“It’s an exceptional winter carnival and this race is no exception,” he said.
