Hot Danish Wins The 2010 Doomben 10,000

May 31st, 2010

Hot Danish has become the first female entrant to win the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) since 1997.

With the advantage of barrier two, the Nothin’ Leica Dane mare claimed the $650,000 event, as it headlined the illustrious Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 Raceday at Brisbane’s Doomben Racecourse on Saturday.

The champion mare’s career prize money is now just under the impressive $2 million mark, after claiming her second total Group 1 win in just over a month.

Trained by Les Bridge, the champion mare’s career prize money is now just under the impressive $2 million mark, after claiming her second total Group 1 win in just over a month.

Despite the wet weather, rider Tim Clark took Hot Danish through the course well, and finished a length ahead of Whobegotyou.

The winner will be rested now, after four starts this year before embarking on another confirmed season, whereas the runner up will more than likely head into the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on the 12th of June.

Just a short neck behind Whobegotyou, Melito continued her strong stint at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival earlier this year, rounding out the podium for the 2010 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.

Pre-race favourite Orstensia had a disappointing run, finishing a surprising eighth place in what looked set to be her event.

Also taking place on Saturday at Doomben was the Group 3 Premiers Cup (2200m) and five other fantastic races.
