Doomben 10,000 Final Field & Betting

May 27th, 2010

The highly anticipated $650,000 Group 1  Doomben 10,000 (1350m) is due to jump this Saturday as part of the elite Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Headlining the day’s proceedings – the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 Raceday – the Doomben Racecourse sees a full field take to the track for a share in the prize purse.

Favourite to take out the prestigious title of the 2010 Doomben 10,000 is Ortensia at $4.20.

Despite drawing wide with barrier 15, the Testa Rossa mare is topping the odds after proving herself in April during The Galazy (1100m) against a top quality field – although had a disappointing run recently in the BTC Cup at Doomben.

The four-year-old finished fifth to Albert The Fat, with three other contenders for Saturday’s race finishing before her in what was a surprising result.

Although overcoming the odds when he won the BTC Cup, the five-year-old gelding certainly proved himself against a top field, and could be a lucrative wager for Saturday at $26 if he surprises once again.

Hot Danish is another strong contender for the 2010 Doomben 10,000 at $4.80.

With a coveted inside barrier start at the third, the Les Bridge-trained mare has had three strong runs of late, the most recent saw her win the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick seeing off another classy filly Melito.

Melito starts on the outside shoulder of Hot Danish and will look to overcome the mare and Albert The Fat – having finished in second spot to both of them in her last two starts, and goes into the race at $6.

Whobegotyou and Mic Mac are also up there as contenders for the 2010 Doomben 10,000 at $7 and $8 respectively.

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, the four-year-old gelding Whobegotyou sees Queensland jockey Michael Rodd aboard who is looking for his first major Queensland race win this weekend, despite the barrier 19 draw.

Other races forming the race card for Saturday at Doomben is the Group 3 Premiers Cup (2200m) and the Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m), adding to the excitement for the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 Raceday.
