2010 BRC Sprint Final Field & Betting Preview

May 21st, 2010

On Saturday as part of the highly anticipated Kirks Doomben Cup Day, a top-class field of sprinters will take to the Doomben track in the final race of the day, the $125,000 Group 3 Darley BRC Sprint (1350m).

This year the 2010 BRC Sprint has attracted 16 runners plus four emergencies, but following the scratching of the John O’Shea-trained Informality, first emergency Steel Lips, currently a $34 chance at Ladbrokes.com.au gains a start.

Beaded has emerged as the hot pre-race favourite for the BRC Sprint, currently at $2.25 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Peter Snowden’s talented Lonhro mare has drawn barrier six for Saturday and will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy. A winner of seven of her 12 starts, Beaded is coming off a succession of frustrating minor placings in Group races including her gallant third place to Hot Danish last start in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Prior to this the four-year-old was runner-up in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and finished second to Patronyme in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) on March 27 at Rosehill.

The next shortest-priced horse for the BRC Sprint is Ego’s Dare at $7, followed closely by Huxssen paying $7.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Another Sydney raider seeking Group glory at the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the Gerald Ryan-trained Ego’s Dare is coming off an eye catching win in the Listed Hallmark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and has drawn wide with barrier 11.

Huxssen has fared slightly better in the barrier draw with gate eight, the Hussonet gelding coming off a gallant fifth place in the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m).

Other runners with claims in the BRC Sprint include consistent Magic Albert mare Plain Magic (barrier 7), John P Thompson’s improving daughter of More Than Ready Olonana (barrier 9), and veteran seven-year-old Secrets Untold (barrier 5).

The 2010 Darley BRC Sprint is the closing race on Doomben on Saturday, scheduled as race eight and is due to jump at 4:30pm.

Headlining the meeting is the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) featuring the three horses that ran the trifecta last start in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m), Metal Bender, Road To Rock and Gold Water.

Other exciting races on the day include the $150,000 Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) for two-year-olds, the $175,000 Group 3 Doomben Roses (2020m) and the $100,000 Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m).
